Pictures from Peacock’s upcoming drama miniseries about the story that inspired King tiger were shared online, offering a first look at two of the show’s main stars: Kyle MacLachlan and Saturday Night Liveis Kate McKinnon.
In the dramatization of the true story of the crime, Kate McKinnon will play the infamous Carole Baskin, the founder of Big Cat Rescue, (alleged) husband killer and enemy of Joe Exotic, who lends her name to the series. Twin peaks‘Kyle MacLachlan, meanwhile, plays her current husband, Howard Baskin.
Photos of the ensemble – shared by a Kate McKinnon fan page – show the pair in what appears to be a full suit, with McKinnon in a leopard and floral print top (what else?). Howard from MacLachlan wears beige pants with a cell phone holder attached to the belt (the king of the wild style, he’s unfortunately not).
John Cameron Mitchell is also set to star in Exotic Joe, as the main character, alongside Nat Wolff, Sam Keeley and Brian Van Holt.
In case you missed the set King tiger first-time phenomenon, the producers of the miniseries encapsulate the story in a handy synopsis: “Exotic Joe is a limited series based on real events following big cat enthusiast Carole Baskin (McKinnon) who learns that another exotic animal lover, Joe ‘Exotic’ Schreibvogel, is raising and using his big cats at lucrative purposes.
“She sets out to shut down her business, sparking a rapidly escalating rivalry. But Carole has her own checkered past and when the claws emerge, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as his hypocrisy. The results are dangerous.
The original Netflix show is also slated to receive a documentary sequel before the end of the year, with Tiger King 2 promising “more madness and chaos”. As revealed in a teaser last month, Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin will make an appearance, with the former phoning from behind bars.
