news, local news,

From a cat stuck in a tree, a bird in a chimney, and a house fire – the crew of the powerful NSW 477 Ulladulla Fire and Rescue Station never know what they’ll be up against next. This week, the 477 Ulladulla team responded to a house fire call which they handled with their usual professionalism. Two of their other recent jobs came from the All Creatures Large and Small category. The crew were called to Berrara for a cat rescue – yes, that was the “good old cat stuck in a tree” situation. They found Sesame the cat, when they got there, stuck 30 feet up the tree and had been stuck there for a day or two. After many different attempts to retrieve Sesame, including with food, a pipe, and other forms of encouragement, he didn’t budge. The team had to cut the branch very lightly to allow Sesame to fall towards them. The successful rescue allowed a happy owner to find a very happy Sesame. Another pet rescue turned out to be a bit tricky, but in the end the team saved poor ‘Mo’ the bird from the chimney. Mo is a beloved 12-year-old parakeet and she was taken under the bottom plate of the fireplace. After a while, Team 477 Ulladulla finally made enough space for her to come out. A little persuasion with her favorite treat, cashews helped. In the end, a happy owner ended up with a happy Mo.
